Guiding Principles

To be applied in every situation.

Play nice

I may criticize, cajole, maybe make a little fun, and certainly fight for what's right. But I will not sling mud, and I will ask all who work with me to act likewise.

Work the problem

I will focus on identifying core problems and will work on solutions that specifically address them. Substance will trump appearance. People respond to incentives, so I will keep in mind the incentives at work in any given situation.

Let people choose

The most practical approach to solving many of our problems is to allow each individual the freedom to make his own choices. Letting people be has the ideal combination of qualities: it is almost always pragmatic and it is almost always morally right. And, in the end, greater freedom of choice leads to greater happiness for all who possess it.

Keep the big picture in mind

No political issue exists in isolation from other issues. I will approach all issues with their larger context in mind.

Follow the Constitution

I will never vote for any legislation that is not authorized by the text of the United States and Colorado Constitutions.
