Why Luke?

Here's what I will do at the State House.

Get it right

When we're making laws, it is crucial to think critically about whether the proposed law is:

  1. constitutional (i.e., in compliance with both the U.S. and Colorado Constitutions),
  2. an appropriate measure for the government to take,
  3. likely to achieve its stated ends (regardless of good intentions), and
  4. affordable.

I've clerked for a state supreme court, so I've seen the terrible consequences of well-intentioned but poorly written laws. And I spend my days writing precise and compact documents designed to achieve specific objectives for my clients, much like laws are supposed to do for citizens. I know how to get it right.

Be bold

Legislators tend to think in terms of incremental, minor changes. But we have a budget that is rapidly getting out of control, a tax system that makes little sense and is highly wasteful, and a crushing regulatory scheme that is killing businesses. Not to mention one of the worst economic downturns in two generations. We need big changes and bold action.

As your Representative for House District 61, I will work with my colleagues at the State House to take the bold, major actions required to put our state back on the right track.

Shrink the government

The primary reason we have the budgetary and economic problem that we do is because the government has become too intrusive, reaching into every aspect of our lives and disrupting the ability of each of us citizens to achieve our potential.

I will strive to reduce the overall breadth and scope of government so that we can all lead freer, more prosperous lives.
